Why would a Land Trust perform tree thinning? Following on the recommendations of a local land management specialist, OLCT is considering the possibility of a limited and controlled timber harvest on the George and Woodward H. Griswold Preserve. The activity would be designed to improve forest health, regenerate oak, and increase species and structural diversity on the reserve. The harvest would also remove any unhealthy or hazardous trees that may be near hiking trails and create snags that will also improve wildlife habitat.
